That feels weird to me but I suppose it's better to preserve history so it doesn't get erased. I just wouldn't want that stuff in my house.

Yeah, it is pretty weird. You're absolutely right, though: In our horror, we could very well be moved to destroy these things, and thus destroy them for posterity. I suppose that would be tantamount to forgetting these horrors ever took place; it would be sort of like sanitizing our collective memory.
But I'm with you: Not in my house.
