Recurring dream theme

Shortly before waking this morning, I dreamed I was watching the approach of a large World War II-vintage, propeller-driven plane over a clearing in a wooded area where I stood. It must have been coming from an air show, I reckoned.

The plane was a multi-engined behemoth, a B-17 bomber or something along those lines. The plane was majestic in flight, its engines roaring as it lumbered along at low altitude.

Suddenly, there was a bright flash from the right side of the cockpit, the engines sputtered and the plane descended rapidly in a gentle arc, crashing just beyond the clearing amid the trees.

Shocked by what I had just seen, I was torn between running home to get my camera and sprinting to the wreckage to help those on board.

And then I woke up.

Planes falling from the sky has been a fairly common dream theme over the past several years. This is the second dream in recent memory that has involved a vintage plane. I'm sure this reflects my interest in World War II aircraft.

But why? What could be the message?

So many interpretations. But so interesting how you immediately thought do i get my camera or help people? At least your dreams are interesting.Almost movielike. I frequently dream my teeth are falling out.

Hi Lisa,

Yeah, it was a pretty weird dream.

Sorry I haven't called or written lately. I'll do both this weekend ...

Hah!! Unless you're coming over in a B-17, everything should be cool. :))

Hm ... I wonder what a vintage plane symbolizes for you?

That's what I would like to know.

Thanks for the great portait in the later post! As to air crashes... pressman dreams. I had one very like it, oh a month ago. I was out on long island, watching a plane coming in too low in a suburban community near an airport, it was huge, 747 or the like, going so slow I could see the windows, the landing gear very clearly, I began to photograph as it clipped trees, knowing there was nothing I could do to help, only do my job... then it feel onto the tarmack of the airport and I was anoyed that press were kept out, though worried for the folks... typical press dream, eh? Maybe it is the couple of air crashes lately, I also dreamed about photographing a tornado in midtown the morning the tornado hit Brooklyn. In that dream I was hoping that I would not be killed, as I really wanted to file the story... hmmmm...
Your description of the B 17 is very good... reminds me of a real event when I was in grade school... I was distracted while playing baseball in an inter school game, by the long winged profile of a B 17... I was not sure it was one, could not believe my luck at seeing what might be a B 17, kept watching it and it passed overhead close enough to see the gun turettes - that and seeing a DC 3 fly over the wilderness in Canada are my favorite airplane memories.
See ya this weekend
all the best

Hey Lor,

I've never seen a B-17 in flight. I've only heard one from a distance starting up its engines on the tarmac of a local airport, and it was soooo loud. ...

Yeah, maybe it's just a pressman's dream. I keep looking for deeper meanings, when maybe it's that there aren't any.
